Total Time:30 minutes
Yield:4-6 servings 1x
Ingredients
Scale
1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust to your spice preference)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray
Instructions
Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the chicken cubes, buttermilk, and hot sauce. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. This allows the chicken to tenderize and absorb the flavors.
Prepare the Coating: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Make sure everything is well combined.
Coat the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Press the flour mixture onto the chicken to help it adhere.
Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the chicken bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket, being careful not to overcrowd. You may need to cook in batches.
Cook: Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is cooked through and golden brown. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Serve: Remove the spicy air fryer chicken bites from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
