Ingredients

  • Stale bread (Challah, Brioche, French Bread, Sourdough, or White Bread)
  • Eggs
  • Milk (Whole milk recommended)
  • Cream
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Raisins
  • Optional: Nuts (Walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
  • Optional: Chocolate chips
  • Optional: Rum or bourbon
  • Optional: Apple pie spice

Instructions

  • Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and let them dry out overnight or toast in a low oven.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. Add the cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
  • Place the bread cubes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins over the bread.
  • Pour the custard over the bread, making sure all the cubes are soaked. Gently press down on the bread to submerge it in the custard.
  • Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the bread pudding for 45-55 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and the custard is set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Let the bread pudding cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
